About Us

our mission

At Hurley Write, we believe that the ability to write effective documents goes well beyond grammar; rather, the foundation is critical thinking and problem-solving. We also understand that while today’s professionals are smart and strategic, they often lack the skills to create targeted, focused documents.

That’s where we come in. Our customized workshops focus on critical thinking (because professionals are critical thinkers), strategy (because helping them develop a strategy will empower them to improve their writing long-term), and problem-solving (to help them understand that writing, just like every other problem, can be solved by putting together the right pieces in the right order).

Our mission, then, is to provide world-class companies with the tools their professionals need to plan, write, and revise quality documents using the skills these professionals already possess: critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving.

Our success in creating long-term improvement is based on our science- and research-based curriculum and a focus on readability studies (that is, how readers read, process, and act on information). Our workshops are completely customized to ensure the best outcome for your team, which we accomplish via a thorough analysis of your team’s documents and a communication audit.

our history

Pam Hurley, PhD, Hurley Write’s founder, began her career in academia, where she taught students in technical fields who were often frustrated by their “inability” to write.

Pam’s goal was to help these talented, bright students understand that they could write, they simply didn’t have the tools. Pam began researching studies on readability in an effort to develop a curriculum that helped these students use their problem-solving skills to plan, write, and revise. And it worked.

Pam knew that professionals in the corporate world would benefit from her work with her students, specifically her doctoral work on readability studies, and began reaching out to companies in North Carolina. Her first client was PPD, which liked what she did so much that they hired her to train all new hires on the types of writing they would be expected to do while at PPD.

Word spread and before long, Pam was working with other biotech/pharma companies, including GSK, Eisai, and Pfizer.

Pam began seeking out engineering firms and soon found consulting work with Raytheon, Intel, and smaller engineering firms. Government agencies soon began hiring her, too.

As the company grew, Pam hired other consultants to design and teach classes. This group of brilliant consultants has developed podcasts, written articles, created webinars, and of course, continue to work with some of the top companies in the world, including Meta, Apple, and Discover, among others.

Hurley Write’s team of experts are all experienced writers, instructors, and writing coaches and together have over 125 years of combined experience woking with professionals in a variety of fields, including energy, engineering, biotech/pharma, government, and aerospace. Best of all, they’re funny, smart, and extremely talented.
